The Story:
~ From the Journal of an Apothecary’s Daughter, Circa 1887
"The sun hung low above the hedgerows, setting the fields aglow in shades of honey and hay. I carried my basket down to the garden wall, where Grandmother always kept her summer fruits beneath the shade of the wild rose bower. There, nestled beside the cooling mint and chamomile, lay a most curious thing: a watermelon — pale green, sweet as sugar, and rare as rubies in our coastal village."
Imported in rare quantities by sea trade from warmer shores, watermelon made occasional appearances in the walled gardens of stately homes across the British Isles during the 18th and 19th centuries. While not native to these lands, records from Georgian kitchen gardens mention their cultivation in heated glasshouses—prized for their novelty, hydrating flesh, and vivid color.
In Welsh lore, there are whispers of the “Summer Fruit Stone,” a red-green crystal said to preserve the vitality of youth, brought ashore in a merchant’s pouch after a storm-tossed voyage from the Mediterranean. Some say it resembled a slice of watermelon, others that it melted in the mouth like sugar. Either way, it became a favored tale among village children who sought it beneath gooseberry bushes and in the tidepools of midsummer.
Our Summer Watermelon soap is a tribute to this heritage of summer enchantments and rare delights. With notes of juicy watermelon, English cucumber, and a hint of peppermint leaf, it evokes a countryside garden in full sun, laughter ringing across the hedgerows, and the cooling breeze that rolls off the sea.
Formulated with three butters, this bar glows with cool green vitality and offers a creamy lather—like biting into chilled fruit beneath a canopy of summer leaves. Its fresh hue recalls old-world herbal balms, crafted to soothe and revive in the heat of the day.
Take heed - keep out of reach of mischievous fair folk— they’re especially fond of sweet things in June.
 — From the collected writings of Ailsa Rowntree, Herbalist, Scarborough, 1887.

HELP YOUR SOAP LAST LONGER!

Handmade soaps are different than commercial soaps. They cannot hold up under a constant spray of water. Keep your soaps away from the shower spray in a dry ventilated area when not in use. If using a soap dish, use one that allows air to circulate around the soap so it will dry out completely. This will help your bar last longer.
