Rice Bran Oil – A Lovely Balance

Hello friends!
Today I’m going to talk about a much loved ingredient of ours – Rice Bran Oil!  This beautiful golden oil, extracted from the outer layer of brown rice, packs a punch of nutrients and properties that elevates our homemade soap to a new level.  Among the many options

available, Rice Bran oil emerges as a powerful ingredient that brings a perfect balance of nourishment and versatility to our soap recipes. Let’s explore the unique benefits Avocado Oil brings to our soaps:

Nutrient-Rich:
Rice bran oil is renowned for its rich nutrient profile, containing a spectrum of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Vitamin E, a potent antioxidant present in abundance, helps combat free radicals, promoting a youthful and radiant complexion. The combination of nutrients in Rice Bran oil contributes to overall skin health, making it an excellent addition to soap formulations aimed at nourishing the skin.

A Soothing Embrace for Sensitive Skin:
One of the remarkable attributes of Rice Bran oil in soap is its ability to deeply cleanse while maintaining a gentle touch. This oil has natural emollient properties, making it effective in breaking down dirt and impurities without stripping the skin of its natural oils. The result is a thorough cleansing experience that leaves the skin refreshed and balanced.

Soothing Inflammation:
Inflammation caused by sun exposure, insect bites, or even skin conditions like eczema can find solace in Rice Bran oil’s calming properties. The presence of phytosterols, known for their anti-inflammatory effects, helps soothe irritation and promote healing, leaving your skin feeling comforted and relieved.

Moisturizing Marvel:
Rice bran oil is a powerhouse of moisturization, making it an invaluable asset in soap making for dry or mature skin. Its high concentration of fatty acids helps lock in moisture, creating a protective barrier that prevents dehydration. This makes Rice Bran oil-infused soaps an excellent choice for those seeking a luxurious and hydrating bathing experience.

Anti-Aging Efficacy:
Beyond its moisturizing benefits, Rice Bran oil contains natural compounds that contribute to anti-aging effects. Gamma-oryzanol, a unique antioxidant found in Rice Bran oil, helps protect the skin from UV rays and promotes collagen production, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Our Sustainable Choice:
We LOVE embracing eco-friendly soap making. Rice Bran Oil is a readily available, renewable resource grown using sustainable farming practices. By incorporating it into our soaps, we make a conscious choice for both your skin and the planet. From its nutrient-rich composition to its deep cleansing and moisturizing properties, this oil not only adds a touch of luxury to every shower, but also offers a holistic, indulgent experience for your skin.

Soapmaker Tips:
Rice Bran Oil (RBO) is a fantastic ingredient in soapmaking, offering a mild, conditioning lather with a silky feel. Here are some tips to make the most of it in your formulations:
Works Well With… Coconut oil & palm oil → Improves lather and hardness. Castor oil → Enhances bubbles and stability. Shea or cocoa butter → Helps create a firmer bar.

Usage Rate
Recommended: 10–25% of total oils.
Can be used up to 50%, but too much may result in a softer bar that takes longer to cure.

Soap Qualities
Adds conditioning and a creamy, silky lather.
Helps balance cleansing oils like coconut or palm.
Slows down trace, making it great for intricate designs.

Hardness & Longevity Considerations
RBO is softer than olive oil but has similar properties.
If using more than 25%, balance with hard oils (coconut, palm, tallow, cocoa butter).

Substitutions
Works well as a partial substitute for olive oil.
If replacing olive oil, the soap may be softer and faster to trace, so adjust accordingly.

Rancidity Prevention
Contains a high percentage of unsaponifiables and antioxidants, but can still go rancid over time. Add ROE (Rosemary Oleoresin Extract) or Vitamin E to extend shelf life.
