The Story:
In the mist-laced hills of Northumberland, where stone cottages nestle against ancient moors and wild herbs tumble from dry-stacked walls, there lies an old tale of a healer known only as Mother Edlyn. She lived alone on the edge of the village of Warden’s Crag, her cottage roof thatched with heather and her garden brimming with rosemary and wild mint — a blend the locals came to call Warden’s Tonic.
During the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, rosemary was believed to strengthen memory and chase melancholy. It was said that students at Oxford and scribes in Stirling would tuck a sprig behind the ear during long days of study. Mint, meanwhile, was carried in pockets by Highlanders to ward off fatigue and clear the mind before battle.
Mother Edlyn combined both — infusing rosemary for remembrance and mint for clarity — into oils she rubbed upon temples, chests, and hands. She called it The Breath of the Moor, claiming it carried the wind’s wisdom and the healer’s balm.
She shared it freely, wrapping sprigs in muslin and beeswaxed paper. But once a year, during the Beltane rites, she rendered a pale green soap in her blackened iron pot — a lather bright and bracing as a northern breeze. It was gifted to midwives, shepherds, and wandering tinkers. Legend holds that one bar made its way into the sea chest of a young naval apprentice, who carried it through storms, foreign ports, and heartbreak, swearing it kept him steady.
Let Rosemary Mint be your daily tonic — a return to the hedgerow apothecary and wisdom passed from hand to hand.

HELP YOUR SOAP LAST LONGER!

Handmade soaps are different than commercial soaps. They cannot hold up under a constant spray of water. Keep your soaps away from the shower spray in a dry ventilated area when not in use. If using a soap dish, use one that allows air to circulate around the soap so it will dry out completely. This will help your bar last longer.
